Library welcomes new science librarian

Swem Library welcomes Lauren Goode as its new science librarian on July 1.

Goode comes to W&M from Eastern Kentucky University (EKU), where she served as School of Library and Information Science (SLIS) associate, providing library instruction and research services to the university community.

With a background in science, Goode brings specialized knowledge and experience to the position. Goode earned a bachelor’s degree in wildlife management and a master’s degree in biology from EKU, as well as a master’s in library science from the University of Kentucky. Prior to her position as SLIS associate, she served as curatorial assistant for EKU’s herbarium, a collection of preserved plant specimens, accessioning new specimens and digitizing the collection to make them accessible online. She also served as a lab instructor for EKU’s department of biological sciences.

"We are so happy to have Lauren join us. She is extremely qualified, and has the skills and teaching experience that will make her an excellent librarian and liaison to the sciences here at William & Mary," said Lisa Nickel, associate dean of research and public services at Swem Library.

As science librarian, Goode will manage the College’s physics and chemistry branch libraries, provide research and instruction services, promote library services and resources, and cultivate partnerships to help the library respond to student and faculty needs.

“I knew right away that William and Mary was where I wanted to work as a research librarian for the sciences. The campus is simply beautiful, and all of the science disciplines are engaging in cutting-edge research which I am thrilled to support,” said Goode.
