Exhibit: Night Before Christmas

Swem Library's annual "The Night Before Christmas" exhibit is now open in the Nancy Marshall Gallery and the Special Collections Research Center (SCRC) on the first floor of the Library. The exhibit features a stunning array of books and memorabilia relating to the classic Christmas tale from the Nancy H. Marshall "A Visit from St. Nicholas" Collection. Marshall, former director of Swem, began collecting more than 45 years ago and donated her collection to the Library in 2005.

Chandi Singer of the SCRC staff curated the exhibit. Assisting her were Swem staff members Ellen Cloyed and Karen McCluney, student workers Jennie Davy and Shawna Kelly, and volunteer Emory Lake.

The exhibit will be open until February 15, 2007. The Nancy Marshall Gallery is open when the Library is open; the SCRC is open more limited hours. For details on hours, please see http://swem.wm.edu/hours.cfm

Exhibit: Dept. of English Faculty Publications

"Title Pages," the first of a series of library exhibits of W&M faculty publications, opened on October 23rd at Swem Library. The exhibit features over fifty books written by the faculty of the Department of English Language and Literature, as well as letters and reviews that were produced as part of the publishing process.

The volumes in the exhibit are on loan from the University Archives and second copies are available in the circulating collection.

The exhibit is located in the Bright Gallery in the second floor rotunda of the east wing of the library and will run through January, 2007. Visitors will be impressed by the many hours of research and scholarship represented.
