Sales Tax
All orders that are picked up at Swem Library or are delivered to a Virginia address are subject to Virginia sales tax which will be added to the invoice before the addition of shipping and handling fees, unless proof of tax-exempt status is provided.
Shipping and Handling
Shipping and handling fees depend on the cost of the order (including taxes) and on the method of delivery. There is no shipping and handling fee for orders picked up by the patron in the Special Collections Reading Room.

Orders normally will be processed within two weeks or ten business days. If there is a rush on an order, the following charges will be added:
Within 5 business days, add $100.00.
Within 10 business days, add $50.00.
Use/Permission Fees
Acquiring copies of materials in any format from Special Collections does not confer the right to recopy, reproduce, publish or exhibit them without the express written consent of the Special Collections staff or the holder of copyright to those materials. Permission to reproduce images is granted for a fee based on the intended use of the images.
How to Request Permission
Fill out the Permission to Publish form, print and sign it, and mail it to Permissions, Special Collections Research Center, Swem Library, PO Box 8794, Williamsburg, VA 23187-8794, or fax it to: 757-221-5440. You will be informed of the total of your fees and supplied with a letter authorizing your one time use of the materials, giving the correct citation format.
Use by Students
There is no permission to publish or use fee required for materials used in honors theses, master’s theses, doctoral dissertations, but permission to use must be obtained.
Use by Virginia Schools and Agencies
Virginia public schools and Virginia agencies are also exempt from use and publishing fees, but permission to use must be obtained.
Quoting from SCRC Materials
There is no charge for quoting from materials in Special Collections; however, permission to quote must be obtained. See "How to Request Permission" above.
